Webcam details -
The webcam installs as an Image device.  It doesn't install as an audio device so the camera microphone can't be used in webcam mode. The webcam was tested with Windows 7 64 Home Premium and CyberLink YouCam 3.  Since this is USB 2.0, the theoretical maximum capture data rate is 60 MBps.

On Windows 7 the webcam installs as two devices: Imaging Device - USB2.0 UVC HQ WebCam - Hardware ID 114D 8C00.  USB Controller device - USB Composite Device - Hardware ID 114D 8C00.

Image capture, all resolutions verified.

Video capture test.  What you capture depends on your webcam capture software.  YouCam captures photos in JPG and captures video in AVI, YUV codec. Audio in the AVI is PCM codec from the computer microphone.
All resolutions were verified to video capture.  Unique frame rate 30fps - 320x240, 640x480.  Unique frame rate less than 30fps 640x480, 800x600, 1280x720, 1920x1080.  1080p data rate 51 MBps. 240p data rate 4.6 MBps.

140921 VW890 Flat Cable Extension
SUMMARY - My tests, your results might be different - An 8 inch extension at 720p and 1080p can be used to relocate the CCM  (Compact Camera Module) away from the PWB.  A 15 inch extension can be used at 720p, but did not work at 1080p.
Extreme care must be taken because the CCM and the cables are fragile.
Disconnect the battery before connecting or disconnecting.

VWTECH VW890 8 inch extensionVW890 battery, PWB, 8 inch extension cable, CCM.
The CCM is connected to the PWB by a flat cable and 24 pin 0.5 mm connector.  I tested extending the flat cable using an 8 inch and 15 inch extension  available from ebay.  The extension consists of a cable male-male and connector female-female.

Both cables worked for me at 720p, photos and video.  At 1080p the 15 inch cable did not work because the video terminated early and the resultant AVI file was corrupt.

So, I would guess that cables 8 inches or shorter would work.  Your results might be different.
